COURSE OUTLINE


Day 1 Empathy & Define

o  Morning Session: Empathy

  • Introduction to Empathy in Design Thinking: Understanding the importance of empathy in identifying user needs and problems.
  • Building Emotional Intelligence as a Facilitator: Techniques for creating a deep connection with participants and understanding their perspectives.
  • Observation Techniques: Learning to observe without bias, and how to guide participants in doing the same.
  • Active Listening Skills: Practicing active listening to uncover latent user needs during workshops.
  • Empathy Mapping Exercise: Participants will practice empathy through observation and interview exercises.

o  Afternoon Session: Define

  • Framing the Problem: Guiding participants on how to synthesize their findings and frame the right problem statement.
  • Facilitating the ‘Define’ Stage: Tips on helping participants craft clear, actionable problem statements.
  • Creating Problem Statements: How to guide participants in turning insights into “How Might We” statements.
  • Practical Activity: Participants will facilitate small groups to transform empathy findings into clear problem statements.
  • Refining Your Problem Statement: Reviewing and improving problem statements with real-time feedback.


Day 2 Idea & Prototype

o  Morning Session: Ideate

  • Facilitating Ideation Sessions: Techniques for sparking creativity and overcoming groupthink or creative blocks.
  • Divergent and Convergent Thinking: Teaching participants to encourage a flow of ideas and then filter them effectively.
  • Brainstorming Techniques: How to guide brainstorming sessions with tools like mind mapping, SCAMPER, and Six Thinking Hats.
  • Handling Group Dynamics During Ideation: Managing different personalities, ensuring participation from all, and keeping energy levels high.
  • Practical Activity: Facilitating a group ideation session to generate creative solutions to the defined problem.

o  Afternoon Session: Prototype

  • Introduction to Prototyping: Teaching the importance of building low-fidelity prototypes quickly to test ideas.
  • Types of Prototypes: Understanding different types of prototypes (paper sketches, mock-ups, digital, etc.) and how to guide participants in creating them.
  • Facilitating Prototyping Workshops: Encouraging participants to embrace imperfection and experiment during prototyping exercise, turning ideas into tangible representations.
  • Prototype Feedback Loop: Facilitating group discussions on the feedback from early prototypes.


o  Module 5: Synthesis and Refinement

  • Crafting a compelling narrative for your design solutions

Day 3 Test & Conclusion

o  Morning Session: Test

  • Testing Prototypes: Teaching how to guide participants in user-testing their prototypes effectively, collecting meaningful feedback.
  • Facilitating User Feedback Sessions: Techniques for organizing user interviews and observation during testing.
  • Iterating Based on Feedback: Helping participants refine their prototypes based on the feedback received during testing.
  • Managing Iterations and Time Constraints: Ensuring efficient iteration cycles within limited time frames.
  • Practical Activity: Participants will conduct a user-testing session on their prototypes and facilitate discussions for iterations.

o  Afternoon Session: Conclusion & Certification

  • Measuring Workshop Success: Tools and methods to evaluate the impact of your Design Thinking workshops.
